Dual-Use Products

Overview

Dual-use products are items or technologies that have the potential to be used for both civilian and military purposes. These products often have legitimate commercial applications but can also be used in ways that pose risks to national security, international non-proliferation agreements, or human rights. Dual-use goods can include materials, equipment, technologies, or software.

In Dynamics 365

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, some functionalities and features can help manage dual-use products, especially when it comes to compliance, monitoring, and reporting. The dual-use feature helps companies keep track of products that are identified as dual-use goods, stores certificate numbers for each relevant product and destination country/region, and prints valid certificate numbers on relevant invoices, packing slips, and/or sales orders.

The setup involves creating a list of countries for which the dual-use products can be used (Product information management > Setup > Product compliance > Dual Use Products > Dual Use Country Setup), creating the dual use codes that are required (Product information management > Setup > Product compliance > Dual Use Products > Dual Use Categories), and specifying which products require certificates numbers (Product information management > Setup > Product compliance > Dual Use Products > Dual Use Certificates) and when the certificate number should be printed:

The released product would also have the Dual-use products and Dual-use code flags set in the Foreign trade FastTab:
