
Overview
A line of business defines the industry type that a supplier operates in.
Purpose
This is an additional layer of information built into the supplier record that can be used for user insights, filtering and reporting.
Example
The line of business must be defined by a 10 character maximum code and a corresponding name.
How these could be defined by a business are detailed below;
Example 1:
Code Name
AERO Aerospace
BANK Banking
AUTO Automotive
Example 2:
Code Name
01 Aerospace
02 Banking
03 Automotive
For example;
- Virgin Atlantic operate with a line of business of Aerospace.
- HSBC Bank operate with a line of business of Banking.
- Jaguar Land Rover operates with a line of business of Automotive.
In Dynamics 365
The line of business is mastered in the procurement and sourcing module whereby a list of records are configured by defining the following fields of information;
Line of business code; The line of business code presents users with an acronym displayed system wide that represents the line of business name. This field is restricted to 10 characters.
Line of business name; The line of business name defines the record within the system. This field is restricted to 60 characters.
Create your lines of business
The line of business records are defined within Dynamics 365;
The line of business can be applied to a supplier record
A single line of business is assigned to a supplier record.
Filter records using the line of business
The line of business field can be used for filtering information within the system.
